Leadership Big Canoe Class begins September 11

It’s that time again. Leadership Big Canoe (LBC) will be starting the 2009-2010 class on September 11, 2009, and we are accepting applications from qualified Big Canoe residents now.
Over ninety people have been through the course now and almost without exception, they found the experience both informative and challenging. And, I might add, fun.
I know from my own experience in being a part of the class, both as a student and as an observer of the 2009 class, there’s much to learn much about this incredible community we live in--from its beginnings back in the seventies all the way through the exciting plans for our future.
I gained a greater appreciation for how we have evolved into a self-governed community and how the developer worked hand-in-hand with our Property Owners Association (POA) to create the many amenities we enjoy.
I had an opportunity to meet and listen to both Dawson and Pickens County officials who, by their own admission, rely on the culture of volunteerism inside the Big Canoe gates to meet the needs of their respective communities.
I even had a chance to hear from Tom Cousins, the original developer and from many of the long term residents who’ve been here since back when, some for twenty five years or more.
I’ve gained an appreciation for the many, incredibly talented residents who have gone through the course and are now involved in all sorts of activities in support of both Big Canoe and the surrounding counties.
And most importantly, I’ve made many new friends that I have come to respect and admire.
