Who will be the HOA “Volunteer of the Year”? Print E-mail

Each month I usually write about something that is either currently happening with your homeowners association or something that is going to happen. This month’s article will be a little different in that I will be asking for your input.

In the six years that I’ve been a resident of Big Canoe, I’ve come to realize an amazing fact. Volunteering seems to be part of the very fabric that makes our community so special. Almost every person that I know is volunteering for something. It could be volunteering to price items for the Tour of Homes or it could be volunteering to serve on one of the many committees. Volunteering is not limited to inside the gates of Big Canoe. There are many people that volunteer for Good Samaritan, Habitat for Humanity, mentoring programs and many more that benefit not just Big Canoe but our surrounding communities.

Presenting your 2012 HOA Candidates Print E-mail

One of the hardest tasks that the HOA faces each year involves getting property owners to agree to run for the HOA. I’ve found that it isn’t just serving on the HOA Board that becomes the stumbling block, but it is the commitment for three years and the commitment of time. But guess what happened this year when you have a great election committee recruiting candidates to run for the HOA Board? You get a wonderful group of candidates!

One of the most amazing things I have found about the people here in Big Canoe is how committed they are to volunteering. This can take the form of volunteering for a committee or club inside our gates or for another organization outside our gates like Good Samaritan, Habitat for Humanity, mentoring or something affiliated with their religious group. And it usually isn’t just one commitment but multiple commitments. For me, this says a lot about the quality of people that we have living here in Big Canoe.
