Ongoing testing and adjustments of the new cell tower signals will improve cell service in Big Canoe, according to John Farris, Big Canoe project leader for the cellular services improvement project. Several test drives to identify further improvement opportunities have been conducted since the tower was turned on, he said. On Nov. 7 tests were made to determine the results of adjusting angles on the four towers serving Big Canoe.
Further improvements are expected when the Oglethorpe Mountain tower will be upgraded from 2G to 3G.
Big Canoe will never enjoy the 100 percent coverage that one might receive in the city because of the topography, according to Farris. However, the process of continuous quality improvement will deliver the best service possible in this type of terrain, he said.
The project has been passed on to the POA. Farris said that the project is essential to attracting more buyers who intend to commute to work and use more sophisticated communications technology.
