Peanut butter dog treats are nothing to bark at
Talk of the table

Calling all canine cookie connoisseurs: Mom’s secret peanut butter cookie recipe is about to be revealed.
With Dad unable to write his column this month, I offered to help out (with a bit of assistance from Mom). This recipe is a big hit with Mom’s four-legged students and can be found on numerous websites including sugarlaws.com/dog-treats.

Peanut Butter Dog Treats
Makes about 35 3-inch bone-shaped cookies
- 2 cups whole-wheat flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 1 cup skim milk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, combine the flour and baking powder.
Soften the peanut butter in a medium bowl in the microwave for 20 seconds. Add milk and stir until smooth. Add the wet mixture to the dry, and mix well.
Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Lightly coat a rolling pin with flour, and roll the dough out to about a 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out shapes using cookie cutters.
We canines prefer bone-shaped cookies.
Place on a greased baking sheet or baking stone and bake for 20 minutes or until lightly brown. The cookies should be soft.
Cool on a rack out of harm’s way.
Cookies can be stored in an airtight container or frozen.
