Dawson County Emergency Services (DCES) responded to call on Rimrock Road in Pickens County Monday, Aug. 20. Upon arriving on the scene, an overturned cement truck was observed in a residential driveway.

“The area is served by an automatic mutual aid agreement with both counties [Dawson and Pickens] assisting each other,” Dawson County EMA Director/Fire Chief Danny Thompson stated in a written statement. Dawson County stations 1, 6 and 8 responded.

Crews were able to rescue the driver of a Wayne Davis Concrete truck after a 30-minute extrication. “The driver said his brakes went out,” Pickens County Fire Chief Sloan Elrod said. The homeowner said that there had been a similar incident a few years ago, according to Elrod. “This is the first I can recall,” he said.

Pickens County EMS took the driver to Kennestone Hospital for further evaluation of his injuries. The Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation.
