Fire station demolition paves way for next step

By Laura Link

Thursday, Sept. 7, the next phase of the new fire station in the village took place with the demolition of old Station 3. The old leaking and inadequate structure was harmful for the firemen working there and breathing toxic fumes from the engines next to the living quarters.

The next step will be to jack hammer the old foundation to make way for the drive into the new station under construction next to it.

When Hurricane Irma’s cone path extended into the Big Canoe area, one fireman said if the workers had only waited, the storm winds could have helped blow the place down and saved demolition.
