Atlanta Mandolin Concert–Sunday, March 18, 4 p.m. Big Canoe Chapel. For many who have not seen nor heard a mandolin orchestra before, it consists of mandolins, mandolas, mandocellos, guitars, and basses. AMO’s repertoire features, light classical, turn of the century rags and marches, jazz, Irish, Latin and Brazilian compositions. Tickets are $12 advance purchase and $15 at the door. Joyce Chura Memorial Blood Drive–Friday, Mar. 16, 8:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. at the Broyles Center next to the Big Canoe Chapel. For more information about the drive or time to donate, contact Cheryl Mahan at 706-224-6610.

Easter Egg Hunt–Mar. 31, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Playfield Park. Hunts will be broken down by age group. Candy, trinkets, and surprises will fill the eggs. Black Bear Society St. Patrick’s Day Golf Tournament and Party, Friday Mar. 18. 9-hole scramble adjusted for team handicap, teams consist of four golfers of any gender, only 3 club and a putter; tee off at 2 p.m. before the St. Patrick’s Day Party at the Black Bear Pub. During the Black Bear Society event, bagpiper Tommy Burns will roam the Pub and Veranda, playing traditional Irish tunes from 6 – 7 p.m. Modern Vinyl will play from 7 p.m.–10 p.m.

Bocce Camp Early registration for spring bocce begins Feb. 19 and ends March 19.

Ridgerunners–Tuesday, March 13,10 a.m. at the Clubhouse at Lake Sconti. Sandy Reece of Reece’s Fashion Gallery of Calhoun will present a fashion show to featuring the latest styles from the gallery’s spring collection. Register for lunch after the meeting at bigcanoerr.com.

Artists’ Club annual show– March 16-18 at the Swim Club. Friday, March 16 - Sunday, March 18 is the largest art show of the year presented by the Big Canoe Artists’ Club. Artwork includes paintings as well as jewelry, pottery, sculpture, and other unique 3D artwork. The opening reception welcomes all on Friday, March 16 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m.

Black Bear Project Dinner. March 25. “An Extravaganza of Fur & Feathers” by Nina Fischesser, director of the Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute, is the topic of the March 25 program and dinner sponsored by the Black Bear Project, a subcommittee of the Conservation Committee. The presentation begins at 4:30 p.m. in Mountains Grille at the clubhouse, preceded by beverages and conversation at 4 p.m. Reservations required. Maximum 100 people. Travel Club – Wednesday, Mar. 28 at 6 p.m. in the clubhouse and will feature Paul Gauguin French Polynesia cruise. Complimentary wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be available.

Legacy of Caring Gala & Auction. Saturday, April 21 at the clubhouse. The evening will include live and silent auctions and entertainment by Broadway actor, Courtenay Collins. Honorary Chairs for the Gala are Big Canoe residents, Sandy and Jeff Downing. The Masters of Ceremony are former University of Georgia head football coach, Vince Dooley, and his wife, Barbara Dooley. Tickets $100 per person include buffet dinner with wine available online at www.bigcanoelegacy.org. Dress is black-tie optional. Proceeds benefit charitable organizations in Pickens and Dawson counties that focus on the well-being of women and children.

Great Decisions–Begins April 26, 10 a.m.–noon for eight sessions. Call for the spring pre-registration to participate in interactive foreign policy discussions to meet weekly on Thursdays in the Mountains Grille Room for eight sessions. Groups are limited to 30 members. The $27 registration fee will cover the cost of the text and will be charged to your POA account. Atlanta Braves game package–Sunday, May 6 with a 1:35 p.m. first pitch. Reservations at the Home Depot Clubhouse at SunTrust Park as Atlanta Braves take on the San Francisco Giants. Tickets are $175 per person and include a game ticket, transportation to and from Big Canoe, dinner buffet, beer, wine and a private suite with TVs, a bar, and private restrooms at the Home Depot Clubhouse at SunTrust Park.
