Jeff Cook Tai Chi 3 003

Tai Chi topic of June 8 Expert Series program

BY Rhonda Stock

The Knowledge Series is pleased to present its first Summer 2019 Expert Series program: Jeff Cook, Certified Tai Chi Master and disciple of Grand Master William C.C. Chen world famous Tai Chi teacher. Cook will discuss his journey from beginning Tai Chi in 1986 in Atlanta, to competing in Wu Dang China, in 2012, the birth place of Tai Chi over 600 years ago, where he and his team won gold medals.

He will discuss the philosophy of this art, which is rooted in the concept of living in harmony with nature.  He will also demonstrate the martial side of the concept of softness overcoming hardness, which revolutionized the concept of fighting.  Finally, he will discuss the plethora of health benefits derived from doing Tai Chi on a daily basis, including improvement with balance, circulation, arthritis, osteoporosis, stress relief, and longevity. Harvard Medical recently published a book of over 400 clinical studies about the health benefits of Tai Chi.

He will also talk about the many teachers he has encountered both in U.S. and China, the profound changes in China he witnessed between 1986 and 2012 and his journey to the sacred mountains of Wu Dang where he studied with the Taoist Monks there.

Cook has been teaching Tai Chi since 1993 and currently hosts regular classes in Roswell, Dawsonville, and Big Canoe. In 1986 he traveled to China where he trained with various masters in Beijing, Shanghai, Canton and Hong Kong. In 1987 he moved to New York City and began studying with Grandmaster William C.C. Chen, who was named one of the top 50 most influential martial artists of all time by King Fu magazine. He is the only certified teacher of Master Chen living in Georgia. Cook continues to study with internationally known Tai Chi masters.

Come join us for this interesting demonstration! It will be held on Saturday, June 8 at 11 a.m. at the Canoe Lodge. The program is free, but please be sure to register at www.bigcanoepoa.org or by calling Dot Grogan at 706-268-2420. Hurry, space is limited!
