BIG HAWK

Watch out Big Bird!

Big Canoe residents Tim and Julie Milam spotted this hefty hawk the end of October perched in a tree on Wilderness Parkway near the entry drive to the clubhouse. “We've never seen a hawk this huge!” Tim wrote to Smoke Signals.

Big Canoe is a bird watchers’ paradise. Jim Tanner’s photos of Big Canoe’s birds are consistent award winners in the Georgia Press Association’s annual photo contest. Last year Bert Loftman introduced the community to a bald eagle he spotted above Lake Petit. We ran the photo in Smoke Signals and it won an award, too.
